William Shakespeare was born in 1564.He was an amazing English playwright and poet who was considered to be greatest dramatist the world has ever known. Shakespeare was born in Stratford-on-Avon. In 1592, Shakespeare was recognised as an actor and playwright. He was only twenty-eight years old at that time. Shakespeare died in 1616. Although he no longer is alive his works are still read by millions.
His earliest plays, such as "Titus Andronicus" or "The two gentlemen of Verona", are still performed and quite highly regarded , but there is no doubt that his best work emerged after a few years, such as "Hamlet"," Romeo and Juliet", "Antony and Cleopatra". His plays were the property of the Kings men, his "acting company ", not his, and were only published in a collection some years after his death. In this essay I am going to discuss one of his most famous plays of all times "Romeo and Juliet".
It must be remembered that, as he wrote Romeo and Juliet he had on his table a book that was published in 1562, two years before he was born. It was called The Tragical History of Romeus and Juliet', By Arthur Brooke, and was written as a long poem. He followed it fairly closely for the story. But we should not feel bad about him borrowing his material because Arthur Brooke in turn took the story from an Italian writer called Bandello, and Bandello had borrowed it from an even earlier story by someone called Keigi de Porto who had published it in 1530!
William Shakespeare was influenced by writers who have come before him such as the Latin poet Orid- or older contemporary Christopher Morlowe but we must think about the talent he was born with.
There were a myriad of tales around in his time about a boy and a girl, who fell in love, but their families hated each other and their hate helped cause the deaths of the young lovers.
