Step 1: Themes in Religious Scripture
Topic 1: Love
1.) Christianity: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16) In the scripture we see how much god loves us. For god sent his only son to be man in the world and to die for all the sins in the world and to suffer for us. This teaches how much love god has for us. It also says that if you believe that Jesus the Son of God died for us then you will enter the gates of heaven.
2.) Islam: “But now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love." (1 Corinthians 13:13) In this teaching, it clearly states how love is the most important of faith, hope, and love. Lots of religions are the same they still want you to have faith and hope but have love for example for god. Even if you have faith and hope you cant reach paradise with ought love.
3.) Buddhism: "Rahula, practice loving kindness to overcome anger. Loving kindness has the capacity to bring happiness to others without demanding anything in return.” (Buddha) In Buddhism, love is a practice. It says that to overcome anger you must practice love. Also it says that you should just love someone even if they don’t love you should just show them love ort make them happy with ought expecting anything in return.
4.) Hinduism: “Hatred is never cured by hatred, but by love. This is the everlasting ethical law.” (Buddha) In the scripture, Buddha says that we should not seek revenge on someone who has done us wrong. We should still love them because they are our neighbors. In the Hindu teachings, it is said that the spirit is in us all and revenge on someone is the same as revenge on the spirit.
