I chose to do my response essay on the story eleven. The reason I chose to do my response essay on eleven is because it is the easiest of the given stories for me to relate to out of the selection of stories we are allowed to do our response essays on.
The story eleven is about an eleven year old girl who on her birthday is humiliated. Her teacher is the one who does this to her but she was somewhat assisted in doing this by some of the girls pupils. She is embarrassed by her teacher because there is a nasty old sweater in the lost and found box that has been there for a very long time and it is not hers but a student says it is. The teacher goes along with the student and tells her to take the sweater. This is where she gets so humiliated.
I feel that almost everybody can relate to this story in one way or another. The reason I feel this way is because I believe that there is practically nobody who has never been through an embarrassing experience at one time or another. This is why I think that this is such a good piece, because everybody can relate to it like I said earlier.
When reading the story I felt very strongly about a few certain parts. One such part is where the subject Rachel started becoming resentful towards the teacher Mrs. Price and said "that's not, you're notÂ… Not mine," and Mrs. Price responds by saying "of course it's yours," "I remember you wearing it once." I believe that the story takes a big turn here in the direction of neutral feelings to feelings of anger.
If I had to point out where I think the climax of the story is I would say that it is when Mrs. Price lashes out at Rachel and forces her to put the sweater on against her own will. "Rachel" says Mrs. Price and then "you put that sweater on right now and no more nonsense." Rachel responds by saying "but its not" only to...
