Escaping through music can get a person through life. Hearing your problems set to complex melodies and abstract words acts as a coping device. Music does not just have to relate to simple life problems, but also to societal problems as well. There have been many songs that are overtly related to our society; Sunday Bloody Sunday by U2, What's Going On by Marvin Gaye and American Skin (41 Shots) by Bruce Springsteen are all songs that blatantly address social problems. However, while a song may not throw a social standpoint in your face, it may still address a point. For generations, people around the globe have celebrated. In America, we celebrate the Fourth of July to symbolize our breaking away from British rule. Every year, at different times across the globe, people take a break to celebrate the starting of a New Year. Peace has always been a reason for jubilation, but never as much as was seen at Woodstock. There, on a hot weekend in August of 1969, 500,000 people came together, creating a milestone by celebrating peace and love through music.
In the process of conveying emotion and feeling, sundry people take different routes in going about such a task. Some people draw, some debate, and others write. Paul Simon, a genius with words and music, wrote poems to describe his feelings on politics, love, and the ways of life. Hearing or reading a Paul Simon song makes the person a very lucky individual because they had just experienced real emotion, something that is very rare.
