A Life Gone

The sound of the train was getting closer; he could hear the clanking of the wheels and the whistling as the conductor toots the whistle. Trent's stomach drops to his knees, his eyes glaze over as he drifts off to that one dramatic life changing night. Brian and Trent were the absolute best of friends. They grew up together, literally from diapers to young men. Brian and Trent were inseparable. They attended the same school, they were in same classes. They went to school functions together and played sports. You never saw one of them without the other. After graduating high school they attended the same college. It was in their freshman year of college that one day, one night, would change both of their lives.
It was a Friday night in late September; Brian and Trent were going to a party. The party was out of control with a lot of alcohol and loud disrupting music. Brian and Trent decided to take a walk to sober up before leaving and driving home. Brian wanted to go down to the rail road tracks to watch the train come by. The train tracks were located about 200 ft. behind the house; it was practically in the back yard. Trent followed him. The train came at the same time every night. It was like clock work. Often, "the gang" would hang out down there, drinking and playing around. It was like a hang out for them like a tree house.
Brian and Trent threw rocks along the tracks and talked about there plans for tomorrow and what they wanted to do next weekend. It was getting late; the stars were out shining so brightly that it gave a little bit of light to cast a shadow. They sat down beside the tracks and looked up at the stars. Before too long they were passed out asleep along the tracks. They were asleep for about two hours; it was around 4:00 am.
