"Wow!' You look like a zombie, what happened to you?" Yes, I know, I have not gotten any sleep in days!" Are you suffering from Insomnia? Insomnia is a disorder due to insufficient sleep. Did you know that in the United States about thirty million people suffer from this appalling disorder? Yes, it is not a rare disorder among many Americans. What causes insomnia you might ask? Psychological, and medical issues are the most common causes of insomnia. What are the effects of insomnia to your body? Without sleep your body cannot function properly, your immune system does not have the time to rest, or time to recover from fighting germs and diseases. What effects does insomnia have on the people surrounding the victim? Well, insomnia has an effect on everyone that is surrounded by it and it affects his or her psychological, mental, and physical health in many ways. What can be done about this disorder? There are some effective medicines and techniques to help re-establish the sleep cycle, including psychological aide.
Over all most people believe they do not have time to rest due to stress over jobs, school, and family. For example as a student, choosing between school and work, and trying to accomplish all the tasks with the limited time given can be stressful and lead to insomnia, and everything else will go downhill from there. In the same way, others believe the cause can be psychological due to loosing a loved one, depression, or traumatic experiences. Further causes of insomnia are diabetes, intense muscle twitching, and an overactive thyroid gland, and also the drinking of caffeine-containing beverages before going to bed.
