A Worn Path: Examples Of What To Do

Did you ever stop to think about how when you get older, the things that matter to you most seem to change? Eudora Welty writes in " A Worn Path" about woman by the name of Phoenix Jackson. Phoenix is an old Negro woman whose single chore takes her on a journey that tests both her physical and mental strengths. She starts off walking trough the rugged trail that bears obstacles that are unavoidable due to the fact that they are indeed part of the trail. Then she encounters the people who cross the path of this elderly woman's courageous journey through the "worn path" and trough life. She is an old but determined woman and her passage through this path will signify more than just her single goal at the other end, but a more meaningful and more rewarding accomplishment. A worn path is worth reading because it enlarges our experience of being alive, it gives us examples of what to do, and keeps our soul alive.
First "A Worn Path" is worth reading because it enlarges our experience of being alive. Some people might have the tendency to judge an elderly person as incapable of doing much, or we will even think of them as unable to handle large responsibilities. We feel that after a certain point of living that the body becomes far to frail to endure the dilemmas that we face on a daily basis. Yes it is true that once we reach a certain age that our life slows down a great deal from the former lifestyle one might have lived in there younger years, but that is no reason to cease from enjoying life and appreciating the fact that you are still on this beautiful earth that has many things to offer anyone and everyone, even the old people of this world. Phoenix is described as a very old and small woman who walks "with the balanced heaviness and lightness of a pendulum in a grandfather clock".
