A man’s wife dies, he mourns and sits all day in bed, refuses to go to work, and still carries “conversations” with her. A woman feels depressed, afraid of being rejected, isolates herself in the corner of her bedroom. A teenage girl gets raped by an old man, a few years later; she’s still traumatized by older looking men. A woman touches her car door handle ten times before locking it and heading to work. An old man gets hit by a car, goes into amnesia, and awakes with the mind of a celebrity. A woman high off drugs hallucinates a giant green oozing hand slowly arising out of the wall. These are all examples of situations of anxiety disorders.
Psychology is the science of dealing with the mind with mental and emotional processes. Psychological disorders are part of abnormal behaviors which scientists have been able to classify in distinct categories which makes it easier to treat and hopefully understand what the underlying causes of these disorders truly are; and eventually leading to a cure.
Anxiety disorders are classified into four different groups: generalized anxiety disorders; in which the person feels anxious and has a sense of awaiting disaster, and believes he is falling apart or losing control. Panic disorders; which are panic attacks occurring often that lasts from minutes to hours. Obsessive compulsive disorders; persistent thoughts and repetitive, unavoidable, ritualistic acts that accomplish no practical end. And phobic disorders which are irrational fears of some objects or situations that cant be avoided. Phobic disorders are separated into two groups; simple and complex phobias.
Generalized anxiety disorders generalizes with people that have been depressed from a loss or other disorders. For example, the man’s wife dieing long time ago, and he mourns and lays in bed all day staring at the other side of the bed carrying conversations with his wife that’s not actually there.
