Abortion
I strongly disagree with abortions. Abortions are the murdering of babies and it should be illegal all across the United States. When a baby is killed before it is given a chance at life, it is apparently wrong. The aborted babies are too young to fight for their lives, but feel just as much pain as those already born. Not only are the aborted babies killed, but they suffer up until they die. The number of clinical and hospital abortions across the United States is falling due to mandatory parental consent for minors in most states. As a result, more out-of-clinic abortions are being done. These are very unsafe and not only kill the baby, but also put the mother in danger. Abortions are wrong because of the emotional effects they have on the mother and family, the health risks the mother faces, and because the fetus is indeed a real baby.
Abortion causes many emotional problems for the mother of the aborted child. Many women don't want abortions, but have them anyway and are told that it will not bother them. The mother convinces herself that the symptoms of depression that she is experiencing are not because of the abortion. She then begins to repress her feelings and go through denial (Willke 3). Deciding whether to have an abortion or continue with the pregnancy will probably have a major long-term impact on the woman's psychological and emotional well being ("All" 6). Women often get short-term "post-natal blues" after having a baby and this sometimes ends with suicide (Willke 4). The over-all effect of having a baby is positive on the mother. Being distraught enough to consider suicide is rare among pregnant women, but much more common after an induced abortion (Willke 6). The suicide rates after an abortion are three times the general rate, and six times that of those who give birth (Willke 3). Abortions are very negative and cause many emotional problems for the mother.
