Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12,1807, in a one room cabin. His parents were Thomas and Nancy. Abraham Lincoln began his life as a pioneer farm boy: doing chores, such as hauling water, chopping wood, and helping in the fields’. Lincoln was nine years when his mother died from milk sickness. His father remarried to Sarah. “A remarkable women, Sarah Bush Lincoln exerted an enormous influence on Abraham.” She was uneducated, but encouraged him to learn, and treated him as if he was her own.
I was very surprised when I read the part about his parenting skills, and made me glad that I am a good parent. He was not involved with his older sons. I am sure he loved his children but he was to busy working. Children are only small for so long. I being a single mom it’s not easy raising a family, I hope my children never feel the way that Lincolns did towards his father. I was also surprised to read that Lincoln didn’t even attend his own fathers’ funeral.
The most important thing I learned about Abraham Lincoln was that he was a lawyer and a political person. He was in the Senate and when he was low on money, he would represent people as a lawyer. Abraham being in the Senate and a lawyer helped his political career go even further. I thought it was interesting how Lincoln didn’t want to work as a child, he would have preferred to read and learn. Every time he had a break, or needed to go somewhere he would read as he went. I think his wanting to read and learn also eventually gave him the knowledge he would need to become president.
