Abstinance Education
In the U.S., 7 in 10 women who had sex before age 14, and 6 in 10 of those who had sex before age 15 report having had sex involuntarily. Nationally, nearly one million young women under age 20 become pregnant each year. That means close to 2800 teens get pregnant each day. Approximately 4 in 10 young women in the U.S. become pregnant at least once before turning 20 years old.In the U.S., 1 in 4 sexually active teens become infected with an STD every year.
One way to prevent teenagers from pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases is to support sexual education in schools. If we could pass legislation that would requre a sex education requirement in public Florida schools, students would be exposed to various ways of prevention and contraception. The curriculum for said class would include abstinence teaching as well as contraception and birth control. Students these days need to understand the importance of sex and the risks before becoming sexually active.
Abstinence is not the only answer when it comes to safe sex. There are other methods of contraception, which is defined as the intentional prevention of conception or impregnation through the use of various devices, agents, drugs, sexual practices, or surgical procedures.
Teenagers are young and inexperienced; when a girl at the age of 16 finds herself carrying a child she doesnt know any better than to try and get rid of it by ways of abortion. She may even refuse to see a doctor and get a back alley abortion, puting herself, the child, and family at risk.
By supporting this, americans are not only preventing teens from having unsafe sex, they are promoting good judgment in the future leaders of our country. We must take a stand and encourage our youth to make better decisions and stay safe. If we don't teach these children about contraception and safe sex, it will only get worse.
