Area in Douglas College like the cafeteria, library, Legacy Garden and outdoor area by the Muir Performing Arts Theatre, etc. are public areas in. Public areas are for people relaxing, meeting or waiting people; a good public space should be fit for many people For the College public area design, this quotation means that a good public space’s qualities should be fit for the people who use this area. Beautiful and practicality are two basic requirements which for the good qualities for a public area, neither one can be lacked off. The outside area by the Muir Performing Arts Theatre is an example for me to use in this paper; this area is a beautiful place but not practicality by some reason that I will talk about it later.
A beautiful space can make people have a good time in that area; it should make people feel comfort and amenity; so as a public space should be include this element. It easy to see how important of a public space should be better to make people feel comfort and amenity by this cited. The outside area by this theatre has four specific views which to make people feel comfort and amenity; they are the glass boards, plantings on the outside wall of the theatre, the ceiling and the lighting. There are six erose shaped glass boards were set-up on two sides which near the entrances. The glass boards were printed for different contributor for this College. Those contributors had made a huge contribution for Douglas College’s development. Between these two sides of the glass boards, there are eight printings on the outside wall of the theater. The topic of these plantings is the GreenLinks “08: The Green Beyond.” The glass boards and the plantings are both the most attractive art decoration in this area, and it is important for identification of this space . Generally, the mostly color of this area is cream-colored, this kind of color which combined with lighting can set-up a comfortable place and makes people feel warm and amenity....
