Effects of Technology
Wow, isn’t it amazing how far technology has come. From the first telephone to the cellular I phone, computer to laptop, technology is getting better and better. We are so used to living this fast life, that sometimes we forget how things used to operate. Let’s take a journey back in time, back to the world of banking.
Not too long ago banking wasn’t what it is today. Can you imagine walking into a bank and the tellers just waiting for the next customer with a calculator at hand? I can’t picture it. In fact, I can’t even picture me not having access to my funds when I need it. Prior to the invention of the ATM machine (Automated Teller Machine) complete access to your funds was not possible.
The ATM machine was invented back in the 1930’s, however only lasted 6 months. The bank at that time reported that there was little demand for the new invention and discontinued its use. It wasn’t until the 1980’s that the ATM became a part of mainstream banking. Today, Bank of America has the largest ATM network in the United States.
I personally appreciate having access to my money 24 hours a day 365 days a year. When I was personal banker, I encouraged all of my clients to utilize the service. Not only does it allow you unlimited access to your funds, but you can make deposits, transfer funds between accounts and even access your mortgage and personal loan accounts.
To me, the ATM machine was a creative idea and an awesome addition to technology. Thank goodness for technology and the inventive people who come up with such great ideas. Technology is making life work in a convenient smart way, its making life easier.
