The reliability of health information resources that are available today, carry a phenomenal impact on the education that people are receiving on preventative care and how to better promote health and wellness to increase and produce a better quality of life. A person questioning the reliability of a health information resource should be careful to research and consider all of the qualifying criteria that would justify its accuracy and credibility. Criteria for justifying a credible source should include but is not limited to the following:
- The health information source being accredited, certified and licensed
- Peer Reviews/Critical appraisals and
- Transparency of the information provider
A non-credible health information source will lack majority of the above mentioned. The content of an unreliable health information resource usually tends to lack relevance, denotes to its users to spread more unbalance and biased critical health issues and usually does not provide additional resources that support the accuracy and credibility of information being provided.
