Direct Costs
In the short story "Everyday Use" by Alicia Walker, there is a mom with two daughters who are total opposites. One of the daughters always gets what she wants and the other daughter never really gets what she wants. The mother knows how her daughter is and I believe that she doesn't really like it. I think that in everyone's life there is always someone you know who gets lucky all the time and always gets what they want. This is what takes place in this story.
In this story there is your typical child who for some reason always got what she wanted and was never turned downed or said no to before. There is always someone like this that people know in their live, I believe. If he or she is not in someone's family there is a friend that always gets what they want and always finds a way to out of everything. I think that the flashy people like that who gets what they want, in the end will one day not get what they want and it will happen in a bad way. Wherever there is a person like this there is always a person like Maggie, who doesn't bother anyone, but never is the favorite or best in the family.
Maggie was your typical good child who never wanted too much attention and never really got it either, I felt. She never bothered anyone and as I saw in the story when something came between her and her sister, she did the right thing and told her mom to give her stuck up sister the quilt. This I believe was the Dee getting what she deserved, and not getting what she wanted like in the past. Her mother knew how much Maggie wanted it and even though she would have gave it up, she finally said no to her glamorous daughter. Maggie was a humble person who sacrificed for her sister just not to cause any problems, and it always seems that there is a person like Maggie always standing behind a person like Dee.
