Anxiety: A state or cause of uneasiness and apprehension. Basically this is why my life was turned upside down. This story begins when I was 15. Like most kids, I didn’t have a care in the world. I played football in high school, hung out with friends; I was just your everyday average kid.
One day I was doing my laundry. I had my blue laundry basket in hand, when suddenly a shocking sensation ran though my body. I dropped the basket and headed towards the sink. On my way to the sink, another shock went though my body. I remember the first thing I started to think was, “God, here I come”. I managed to make it to the sink, and proceeded to splash water on my face. Thereafter, my heart started to thump extremely hard like it was going to explode out of my chest. I became light headed and my hands were very sweaty. I ran into the living room and told my dad “I think I’m having a heart attack”. My dad knew exactly what was happening and had me lie on the couch and take a couple deep breaths. I started feeling better and everything felt like it was going to be ok.
A couple of days later I went to the movie theater to see SWAT. It was an action-packed shooter movie. At the beginning of the movie I felt fine, like everything was ok. Towards the end of the movie I started experiencing symptoms of anxiety again. As the movie got more intense so did my anxiety. My heart was thumping with every gun shot. I managed to run out of the theater. My friend Jesse was quickly following me. I made it outside the door and fell against the wall. Jesse came out of the door, looked at me with curiosity and proceeded to ask, “Dude, are you ok”? I looked at him with anxious eyes and replied, “Call an ambulance. Something is wrong with me”. He stared at me with an instance study, and said “It’s ok. You’re having a panic attack. My sister gets them all the time”. It made me feel better having someone tell me I was going to be ok.
