Intel has led the world of microprocessors for a very long time. They have been so far ahead for some long that many of us don't think of another company when we think about microprocessors. However, that may be about to change. There is a new chip in waiting that promises to revolutionize the way computing is done.
The new chip, called the "Cell", will be officially introduced in March 2005 at San Francisco's microprocessor conference. IBM, Sony and Toshiba spent four years constructing and revamping their "Cell". This "Cell" functions in a very different manner from the chips used in the majority of the world's computers today. Most of these computers use Intel chips. The trio's "Cell" is designed to function most effectively in a networked environment which as we know is "grid computing".......
