Patterns and Conclusions
The first pattern I recognised is that, as the solution gets stronger the percentage change in mass gets smaller. I think this is because, as the percentage of solution increases, the concentration increases, meaning more water from the weaker solution, which is the cell in solutions 5, 10, 15 and 20 %, is needed to pass through the partially permeable membrane, causing increasing water loss in the cell. So as the concentration strengthens, the more water needed to even out the concentrations. The 0% solution caused the cell to gain water. This is due to the fact that the concentration is stronger so that it attracts water. It passes from the external solution into the cell, as the cell has a stronger concentration and osmosis causes the solutions to even up. The water molecules can only move when they are in a weaker concentration than the other solution. They can't move from a stronger solution to a weaker one.
