Bariatric surgery is just another quick fix solution to be thin.   Many feel it is

a safe procedure.   With the advancement of technology, such as television, computers

and other electronic device, we are consuming our time with them instead of the

needed physical activity.   The world is changing ever so quickly that we hardly have time

Bariatric Surgery is an operation on the stomach and or intestines to help people with

obesity.   This type of surgery is an option for people with a Body Mass Index (BMI) over  

40 (about 262 pounds at 5 feet, 8 inches tall).   It is also an option for people who have a BMI

35 to 40 and who have been diagnosed with Diabetes type II, hypertension (high blood pressure),

high cholesterol, heart disease, GERD (gastro esophageal reflux disease) and sleep apnea..   The

criteria for being a candidate is you must be over the age of 18, have been obese for over

5 years and tried but failed other methods of losing weight.   You have to comply with the

new diet changes and behavioral changes post surgery.   You not a qualified candidate,

for instance, if you have hypothyroidism, a substance abuse problem, or a major

psychiatric disorder!   The drugs needed to treat these medical conditions can cause drastic

weight gain.

Bariatric Surgery (known as Gastric Bypass) is a permanent reduction in the

stomach.   The surgeon removes the top portion of the abdomen and connects it to the

intestines.   They create an egg shaped pouch for the stomach and eliminate about 2 feet
