Biblical Study Of Temptation

Temp-ta-tion n 1. a craving or desire for something, especially something thought wrong.

It’s a word known by many and despised by all. We have these mini fantasies floating through our heads daily, always nipping at our morals. There is only so long that a weak-minded human can last before giving in. Temptation is by far the highest cause of sin.
I wake up every day with no selfish intent, no hint of addiction, no plans to sin. Yet, every night I find myself hating the man I am. I always end up regretting an action or something that I let myself succumb to. The second I get out of the shower, I am already bombarded with impure thoughts, just waiting for that ritualistic cigarette.
It’s an odd sensation, being disgusted with the addictions that we harbor so lovingly. We all have our daily sins that we commit without thought or recognition. These “addictions” are part of our lives and we hate it. I use the word addiction loosely because I do not believe in addiction. I believe that the word addiction is our man-made excuse for temptation. We rule out quitting smoking cigarettes or buying lottery tickets because we are “addicted”, and it’s “nearly impossible to quit”. Well I have some great news for you. We are lying to our selves and everyone around us.
Hand in hand with justification, we can never seem to admit we are wrong. Long time tobacco users cannot picture life without their cough, yet they don’t see it as a detriment. They just see it as life. That is what is killing us. We learn to adjust and become used to lifestyles so easily. We don’t remember how life was before the drug.
Though we may walk around with our addictive personalities and justified sins, we need to break free. We need to break from the bonds that this world has cast upon us. We cannot be that easily held down. We can show this world that we can rise above and beyond it. Keep in sight the big picture. The REAL reason we are...
