Blair Witch Project:1 documentary or kult klassic?!?!?!?

Like everyone, I went out to see the Blair Witch Project, since everyone made a big deal about the movie. Unlike most viewers, I wasn't overly impressed by the movie;2 it wasn't really all that scary in my eyes. Not to lie, I will admit I did jump a few times, but most of the movie I was laughing and carrying on at how stupid it was, even though I probably shouldn't have.
Overall, I thought the actors' performance was about average--3 even thought I watched it believing it all to be real because of what the preview said and so forth. The scary effects were different from those of more recent horror movies;4 it was more focused on suspense than on gore. It was more of the fear that plays with most people's minds than the hack-em up and slash-em to death, of most so-called "horror" movies
