What is the issue that you have investigated?

The issue that I have investigated is whether or not breast feeding is more beneficial for the mother and child than bottle feeding. My aim was to determine which technique of feeding is more superior through investigating articles for and against breast feeding. As I predicted I could not find any articles against breast feeding, as they all strongly agreed that breast feeding was the greater way, instead I only found some positive aspects of bottle feeding.   In order to research the issue, I investigated several articles and journals in relation to the advantages and disadvantages of bottle feeding including cost and equipment, the bioactive nature and nutrition of human breast milk and its advantages to the infant, community attitudes to infant feeding, and how snoring and sleep apnoea can be prevented in childhood from breast feeding.

The very factual journal article,” The bioactive nature of human breast milk” by Cregan, M. Piper, K. & Berry, C. emphasise in their article that “Human breast milk is the optimal source of nutrition” Cregan, M.(2007) for infant growth as it “contains all the proteins, lipids and carbohydrates and trace elements” Cregan, M.(2007) which is essential for adequate development. To strengthen their position they add that breast feeding has been proven to reduce the risks of the child developing allergies, childhood leukaemia, asthma and cardiovascular disease through the reduction of obesity, blood pressure and cholesterol all due to the nutrients found in human breast milk. This appeals to the audience as it raises some very serious health issues. In addition, Cregan, M. Piper, K. & Berry, C. discover that breastfed infants have an “8.3 point IQ advantage in childhood over their formula-fed counterparts” Cregan, M.(2007). The...
