Brief Biography Mother Theresa Calcutta
Mother Teresa, known earlier as Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, was born in Skopje, Macedonia, on August 27th, 1910. Mother Teresa was a Roman Catholic nun and was the founder of the Missionaries of Charity. At the age of eighteen, Mother Teresa left her home in Macedonia and joined the Order of the Sisters of Our Lady of Loreto in Ireland (Hitchens, 1995). This institution was a school teaching women how to become nuns. The Missionaries of Charity is an institution whose primary task was to take care of the poorest people of Calcutta. Mother Teresa would love and care for these people; especially young children who were homeless and starving. Some of these children were even infected with illnesses and diseases due to the lack of food they were receiving on a daily basis and the unsanitary and hazardous living conditions they were experiencing at the time.
