This is true since the stronger existence can easily overpower the ‘inferior counterpart' because of their weaponry sophistication, dominating size, extreme intelligence and/or economic power. The civilization, state or life that has these superior characteristics will usually conquer the opposing life form. In War of the Worlds these statements were correct to a point. The offending predators had the sophistication, domination, intelligence and power that created extreme terror and disaster among the attacked areas of the world however their defeat didn't include a collapse in any of their highly sophisticated qualities. However until the defeat the world was helpless since it had nothing strong enough to protect itself, including the very limited form of weaponry, which was highly ineffective anyway. This left the world with, what appeared to be, an enforced suicide. It soon became obvious that no human device could even mildly compete with the radioactive rays and the fiery beams.
Scientists' collected samples of the aliens' blood, acquired a Martian electronic eye, found their blood was anaemic and that they couldn't handle a strong light however even with this information they couldn't defeat them. After trying every humanly possible attack procedure and failing, the world gave in to the seemingly never-ending devastation. The stronger existence had almost won because of their highly sophisticated war and defence mechanisms.
