The religion Buddhism developed when "Buddha" or "The Enlightened one" became depressed. The King wanted to cheer him up by arranging 4 trips outside the city of Kapilacastu. On "Buddha's" last trip he met a monk who was calm and worry free. He inspired "Buddha" to do the same. Buddha then left his crown and worldly glory to devote himself to the search of the ultimate truth. Buddha then became a samana or a monk in training and studied meditation under two great teachers Alara-Kalama and Uddaka-Ramaputta. Buddha did not find it hard to reach the same state of mind as his teachers. Though Buddha was a great meditator it did not ease his depression after he stopped meditating. Buddha then left his teachers, because he knew only total tranquility could free him. Buddha tried many practicies but none worked he then decided to find his own way.
