The Seeking of Strategy Where it is Not: Towards a Theory of Strategy Absence- Inkpen & Choudhury
This article explores the concept that strategy absence may help researchers better understand the existing paradigms of existing strategies and processes, since limited attention has been directed towards cases where strategy is expected but is not. Researchers view strategy as a stream-line pattern process, and if a firm exhibits no pattern, it is said to be strategy-less. Strategy absence can occur on three fronts (1) Strategy absence as a result of failure, (2) Strategy absence due to transitions within firms and (3) Strategy absence as virtue. The perspective of strategy absence is of interest to many scholars due to the arguments presented in this paper, where the absence of strategy may provide important clues as to why some firms can survive due to the absence of strategy.

In relation to the article, researchers would agree that the above strategy phases would be viewed as a pattern of streamline decisions, but the current strategy paradigm needs to be broadened to include the examination of strategy absence.
