INTRODUCTION

Attention Material: It's a drug…it's addictive…it's toxic…and it's the most commonly used psychoactive substances in the world. According to Oregon Health and Science University in conjunction with the American Dietetic Association, four to five Americans use the drug on any given day. College students around the world are addicted to this substance, so the question is, "Have you had your coffee today?" Now I'm not going to talk about coffee, it's merely an agent for the addictive, psychoactive substance…caffeine.

Thesis Statement: Caffeine is often the saving substance for many college students under a deadline. I can't even say I was free from its effects while writing this speech. But when abused, caffeine, like must any drug is dangerous.

Preview: After reviewing what caffeine is and its origin, we will explore what caffeine does, how it achieves those affects and then side-effects of using the substance.
