Can We Overcome Sin?

Can we overcome sin? Sin is a terrible plague. It covers our lives and many times causes great pains and tribulations. We try harder and harder to overcome and yet we can't seem to break the bad habit. Some people believe that we will never be able to stop sinning and that we will continue to sin until Christ comes. Others, however, hold the position that sin can be conquered and that God's law can be kept. Which one of these positions is correct? The Bible supports the latter. Sinning can be overcome.
In the Bible, in John 14:15, Christ says "if ye love me, keep my commandments." The simple fact that Christ asks us to keep his commandments is evidence enough that it is possible to keep his law. Christ would not have asked us to do something that was impossible. In the following verse (Verse 16) He says that He will send us a comforter, the Holy Spirit, who will guide us in our daily walk with Him. This comforter, who is one with Christ, gives us the power to overcome sin.
