Carbon Tax
Al Gore and others suggested a carbon tax to raise the price of carbon-based fuels. A carbon-based fuel that we Americans are most familiar with would be gasoline. What does Al Gore believe that this will do for America but other countries as well? Will this be a good thing or a bad thing? These are all issues that need to be contemplated. One of the reasons for the carbon tax would be to lower carbon emissions, which is believed to be the cause of global warming. A carbon tax may be a step toward bettering our environment, but will the costs be worth it?
The idea of the carbon tax came up in a meeting of nations in 1992 known as the Rio Conference on Climate Change, or as it's better known, the Earth Summit. They believed that we were our biggest threat as far as the climate goes. The emissions of CO2 from carbon-based fuels were having a large impact on our environment. The members of the meeting decided to look into the possibility of a carbon tax. Perhaps one of the goals of this tax was to increase the prices of gasoline, making it more expensive to the consumers, which would in turn reduce the amount
that we use, and this in return would cut back on the emissions that are wreaking havoc on our environment. This would also perhaps cause a more conscience awareness of the amount of energy that big businesses waste and it would cause them to perhaps become a little more efficient. All of these are goals that are desired by having a carbon tax. It is well known that the United States uses or rather wastes more energy than any other country, some of our states use more energy than some countries. Perhaps a carbon tax would help to minimize the amount of energy that is wasted. The losers would perhaps be the big corporations or rather the states that have to pay this tax. Anywhere that there is the possibility of having to pay more money there will surely be complaints. The states will have to pay the higher tax and it...
