Charlotte Doyle

The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle is by Avi. It is an adventure novel without a sequel. It takes place on a ship called the Seahawk in the year 1832. The ship is in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean sailing from Liverpool, England to Providence, Rhode Island. The characters of this story make their voyage during the summer.
The conflict of this story is that Charlotte has to board a ship with total strangers, and she will be the only lady sailing! Two people have already warned her not to board the ship, but the man in charge of her forces her to. Later in the story, she is accused of murder.
The rising actions of the story are as follows:
ò She boards the ship.
ò Zachariah tries to befriend her and he gives her a dirk*.
ò The crew introduces themselves and Captain Jaggery asks where Mr. Cranick is. He isn't in the crew.
ò Charlotte tries to give the dirk back to Zachariah, but he refuses, so she t ries to give it to the captain. He says to keep it.
