As you already know señora presidente Bachelet China’s increased presence in Latin America specifically pose a threat to the United States influence over the region as well as economically over natural resources. China is increasingly becoming a critical trade partner with Chile. I will advise on what risks may arise and in my opinion what the best course of action should be. The United States is keeping an eye on China’s growing presence in the region. People in the region view China as an alternative to the United States.
The United States has a very strong influence as well as an excellent relationship with the previous administration in Chile and in the Latin American region. Chile is a strong country in the region.   The People’s Republic of China (PRC) was created in 1949 and Chile was one of the first countries in the region to have talks with the new China. Chile is an ally to the PRC helping them in promoting world trade. Chile was on good terms with Taiwan hence the decline of the invitation by the Chilean president Carlos Ibanez del Campo in the 1950’s. Then in the 1960’s Chile helped the PRC into the United Nations. In December 1970 Chile stopped its relation with Taiwan to improve relations with China, embassies were then established in each country for the first time. Free-market policies allowed Chile and the PRC to find common ground.   In the 1980’s trade between the two countries was slow due to a decrease in exports from Chile to the PRC in 1981 and the 1982 recession that hit Chile hard.   Finally in the 1990’s trade grew at a very fast rate.   100 million dollars came into Chile in 1991 but in the year 2000 the number increased by 800%.
