How Efficient are Hybrid Cars
As gas becomes punishingly expensive, US drivers are saving money with petrol-electric hybrids (Hamer, 2004). With gas prices jumping so high everyday eventually people are going to have to start keeping their old cars to afford to put gas in their cars because they are not going to be able to afford car payments. People could also take the option of buying a hybrid car to cut down on their cost of gas. Are hybrid cars efficient enough to save the customer money?
The advantages and disadvantages of buying a hybrid car, one disadvantage of buying a hybrid car is that it cost more than the economy car. So therefore, are people truly going to save money on gas since they are paying more for the car? One advantage of buying a hybrid car is that the customer will get better gas mileage and could save on gas. “For the hybrid manufacturers it is perfect timing for gas prices to be increasing” (Hamer, 2004).
There are several manufacturers that make hybrid vehicles. Ford makes the Escape Hybrid in two models with prices ranging from $26,640 to $28,390. Toyota makes three different vehicles that are hybrid cars. They make the Camry with prices starting at $25,350, the Prius with prices ranging from $21,100 to $23,370, and the Highlander with prices ranging from $33,700 to $39.950. Honda make the Civic with prices starting at $22,600. GMC now makes the Sierra hybrid with prices ranging from $26,200 to $29,200 and the Yukon hybrid with prices ranging from $46,542 to $50,045. Chevrolet makes the Tahoe hybrid with prices ranging from $49,590 to $52,395. As one can see there are several makes and models to choose from when buying a hybrid car. There are cars and SUV’s to choose from. There is also several different options to choose from on each individual car just like the economy cars. Technology is an easy thing to do (Hyde, 2008).
