Introducing A Team Based Approach

#The work environment has evolved considerably since the Industrial Revolution of the late 18th century. During this time it was uncommon to see a team based approach as mass assembly of machinery and production allowed each factory worker was able to be more productive as their cottage equivalent. By the mid 20th century this model changed again. Employees were not asked to contribute their knowledge and ideas to the task of increasing an organisations ability to compete or make a profit. In most organisations a wide divide separated management from workers under a hierarchal style of management. By the 1990s a new team model had overtaken the old model of hierarchy.

In order to any company to remain competitive and ensure customer growth, it is more beneficial for an organisation to adopt a team approach. Work teams are one of the most popular ways to increase employee responsibility for, and control of, work. Work teams work together with the individuals sharing knowledge and experience to the outcomes of a team based goal. Work teams usually assume many of the activities usually reserved for managers such as recruitment of new staff and general work principles. The team may also perform quality checks and accountability is a common value. As the purpose of this new team is based on productivity, the work team will be implemented.

Organisational objectives are usually determined by a group of senior managers in the initial stage of forming an organisation. In any successful organisation these are often refined as the business progresses. In most cases, these objectives will be promoted as the way the organisation does business throughout the business. These objectives can be lost with individuals who are caught up in dealing in day to day activities.
