South America has always been a continent with a great variety of diversity. For example, in South America there are countries that speak Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese, France and English.   I like to compare Brazil and Paraguay because even though their countries are border from each other they have many differences. The locations of the two countries are different, where Brazil is next to the ocean and Paraguay is not. The languages spoken in the two countries are different as well.   Another big difference is where Brazil gets there money from and how Paraguay makes there money.
Brazil is the only country in South America who has only one official language, Portuguese.   The reason their main language is Portuguese is because Brazil was settled by the country Portugal, whose main language is Portuguese.   The Portuguese spoken in Brazil is very similar to the Portuguese spoken in Portugal. It’s like America and the United Kingdom, English is spoken in both countries but not in the exact same way because different dialect, accent, and vocabulary is used. It’s the same way when it comes to Brazil and Portugal. Portuguese is spoken by 98-100% percent of people that live in Brazil.   When it

comes to Paraguay there are two different official languages, Spanish and Guarani. The most common is Spanish but there are small pockets of Paraguay where the language spoken is Guarani. Guarani is spoken by indigenous people of Paraguay, ethnics groups that live mainly in Paraguay. People who live In Paraguay like to speak in Guarani because it defines their culture, it symbolizes their country and sets them apart from the other South American countries.
When it comes to location Paraguay is surrounded by several different South American Countries. Paraguay is also one of the two only countries in South America that is not next to an ocean.
