Confessions Of A Hip Hop Head
I am now nineteen years old and find myself with a great deal of fascination for music and the arts. I can easily say that music holds a major role in my daily mix of things. I t helps me ignore this crazy world that I find myself in. With so many things going on constantly day after day, it can be hard to find people that share similar beliefs and views on issues. There are many genres existing in our pop culture today and within them there are many different style and techniques being used. In my opinion the underground hip-hop scene suits me the best because it helps me understand myself more in depth. I am a thinking human being and I often have many thoughts and ideas running through out my mind constantly. When I search deep into the music I realize that I am not so strange after all. There are actually other individuals out there that are thinking the same things and what they do with it is construct something truly amazing out of it.
Many times you will hear the phrase hip-hop and just think of the usual music, dancing and rapping. Well I think that it is all that and more. Hip-hop is truly it's own culture. According to Webster's Dictionary culture is best defined as "the concepts, habits, skills, arts, instruments, institutions, etc. of a given people in a given period; civilization". Through my eyes, I see hip-hop as a mixture of honest expression in forms of vocalization, instrumentation, dancing and the visual arts. When searching into the real core of hip-hop you will find a combination of graffiti, break-dancing, DJ'ing, and MC'ing (A.K.A. rapping) which creates a lifestyle with it's own language, style of dress, music, and a mindset that is continuously evolving. Anyone who thinks they haven't seen, heard or felt the impact of hip-hop on today's culture, must be walking around with blinders and ear plugs.
