Controlling Illegal Immigration

Illegal Immigration will become a very costly issue for the American taxpayer if it is not controlled. Boarder states are working to get a handle on this situation but with out funding, their efforts are inadequate.   To control the high influx of illegal immigrants to the U.S. the country will have to continue to revise immigration laws, hold companies who hire illegal immigrants accountable for their actions, and tighten the boarder security.  
Employers who hire illegal immigrants are in direct violation of the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986(IRCA).   The act stops employers from employing illegal immigrants.   The INS to ensure companies, regardless of their size, have verified the citizenship or eligibility to work in the United States does random inspections.   Companies found to be in violation of the IRCA may receive fines of up to $10,000 and possible jail time.(Federal, 2006)   To assist companies with following the law the ICE Mutual Agreement between Government and Employers (IMAGE) was put into place.   Companies who participate in the IMAGE program will reduce the number of undocumented worker by learning how to identify fraudulent documents. The government will train the companies “on proper hiring procedures, use of the Basic Pilot Employment Verification program and fraudulent document detection”(Image, p.2). This program is free to companies and is available in all states. The Department of Homeland Security has introduced this program, hoping it will reduce the number of illegal immigrants in hired in the United States.  
Although illegal immigration is a federal issue, the cost of enforcing immigration laws is imposed on state and local governments.   The federal government has designed a program that will reimburse local law enforcement agencies to detain illegal immigrants.   This program is known as the State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SCAAP).   The program will pay the local agency 20 cents for every dollar spent on illegal...
