In today’s society, we are not blind to the pressures of being as perfect in appearance as possible. There are television shows and magazines splattered with flawless models with bodies so beautiful and faces and features without time or age. For Hollywood, time seems to stop on the screen of movie after movie, where people grow old at such a slow place, that we all want to be a part of their world. With pressure come drastic measures to keep up with this exigent world of perfection. Cosmetic surgery is affordable and more common and it is accepted in a variety of professions to keep people looking younger and fit. Alongside these stereotypes comes an array of TV shows that glamorize cosmetic surgery and play into Hollywood expectations. In conjunction with this comes teens becoming anorexic and bulimic and young people with low self esteem. Understanding that there are other ways to keep ourselves looking good for a long time is the first step to deciding against the ever so desperate step to plastic surgery. We have to look at the risks of cosmetic surgery and real stories as in going wrong. Taking care of ourselves is important also so that down the road you don’t have go under the knife to fix the test that time has played on your body.
Allowing different things on television is a great advance for our generation. The things we can learn and pick up from TV are limitless. The impact television has is not only on young people but also adults as well. There is a popular TV show that airs on the network “FX” on Tuesday nights at 10 o clock PM. This series is called Nip/Tuck and it is based on cosmetic surgery. There are two doctors, Shawn and Christian who start a business call Macnama/Troy.
