Critical Thinking and Application Paper
To think critically means one is developing new opportunities and innovative ideas through fragmenting his or her thought process. Critical thinking is a highly important element in decision-making that adheres only to one guideline, and that is to think outside of the box. The process of critical thinking is boundary less with regard to the number of benefits possibly obtained when exploring all options.
Critical thinking is more than just a process or way to deduct the best possible solution for a problem or needed change; critical thinking requires an attitude that consists of the desire of wanting to know more information. Information not only pertaining to a problem, but information regarding the way one will derive a solution to that problem. Critical thinking is a skill acquired through learning to “take apart one’s thinking systematically, analyze each part, assess it for quality and improve it” (Elder & Paul, 2002, p. 1).
Critical thinking requires extensive thought and planning. In my personal experience I have made only a few decisions that required the process of critical thinking in work related areas, although they were few and far between none the less they required in-depth thought and careful examination of options before making the necessary decision.
Considering that I am administrative assistant to a division director, making work related decisions does not happen often, but when the opportunity arose to transfer and begin reporting to our County Executives office to assist his Chief of Staff, I had to incorporate the process of critical thinking to find the best solution for me and my family.
