Upon reading the story, The Crucible, the dangers of power are realized. The person with absolute power used it for evil. There are others with power, but they fail to use it to do good for fear of lost power. Then there are those with little power who can do nothing if they tried. When power falls in the wrong hands, it can be extremely dangerous.
In the story of Abby, power was definitely in the wrong hands because she became very dangerous. Abby was accused of witchery along with other girls. Abby used this to help her. She knew the trouble she would be in so she confessed to witchery even though it was a lie. When the other girls saw that she did not get in trouble, they followed her example. They started accusing others of witchery, saying that they wanted to go back to God. Most of these innocent people were tired and hung. The town and the judge put the peoples' lives in the hands of Abby. She tried to use her new found power to get back at Putnam, the man she had an affair with, by accusing his wife. In Abby's case, she was given power by doing evil and used for evil.
The judge had power, though it only came from the townspeople. The judge doesn't wants to lose his power. He sent many people to death because the others were scared of witchcraft. The thought of evil in his holy town was extremely scary to them. The townspeople wanted to get rid of the evil. The judge was more worried about his power than a fair trial. When people have power, they'll do anything to keep it which can definitely be dangerous.
Reverend Hale also had power.Reverend Hale also was worried about his reputation. He knew the truth and tried to do something about the lies. He didn't, however, do all that he could. Reverend Hale could have done much more, but he didn't for fear of losing more power. He was more worried about his reputation. Rev. Hale knew the truth but didn't have the power to stop the caous that was going on.
