Culinary Arts Associates Degree
In order to get an Associate’s Degree in the field of Culinary Arts at the Art Institute of Indianapolis a person must enroll in the program. A full time student, which means taking at least twelve credit hours per quarter, can expect to graduate in about two years. In this program there are a variety of classes. Once enrolled in the program the student needs to sign up for classes. The classes include general education classes such as math and science, foundation classes, such as concepts and theories of culinary techniques and sanitation and safety, and then there are finally core classes. The core classes are the classes in which the student learns how to make foods from the different areas in the kitchen and foods from around the world.
The foundation classes, these classes will give the student the base in which they will build their career. There are several classes in this category. These classes are Concepts and Theories of Culinary Techniques. In this class the student learns the concept behind why certain things are done and how they are executed in the kitchen. Another class is Dimensions of Culinary Education. This class is to teach the student about some of the chefs that built the foundation of cooking and gives insight into the depth of the culinary field. The class of Nutrition Science teaches the students the nutrition side of the foods. The class of Sanitation and Safety informs the student of the proper ways to cook, clean and keep the customers and staff safe in the establishment. Finally, in Fundamentals of Classical Techniques, the student learns the classical techniques used in restaurants.
