Daycar Business And Communication Needed
The heart of the daycare business lies in the communication skills that are used. The job detail alone consists of caring for children and creating a nurturing environment, but without the proper communication skills the nature of the business will never survive. The most important communication is between parent and provider. According to Joyce Riser, Owner and Coordinator of Early Learners daycare, the most common used communication is verbal, however daily written reports are another excellent way to accompany verbal communication (personal communication June 29, 2008). Examples that were given to me were using a parent’s board for supplying information such as daily activities, meal plans and any upcoming events. This should be placed were it is visible to parents upon arrival. Also along with the general information provided a personal daily report for each child is given. Listing comments of the day’s events diaper change times, lunch given, the nature of the child’s mood and a spot given for additional comments that the teachers is able to write personal notes. Any negative comments or concern should be saved for a one on one session between parent and provider.
Aside from communication with parents, staff is important, for they are in direct contact with the children. If the staff is unable to maintain positive communication skills the reputation of the business will be in jeopardy. In most centers the staff is considered teachers they are responsible for the development of the children. I talked to some of the staff at early learners to find out what they felt was important communication needs used in the business.
