In this changing era of technology and development organisations are facing new and adverse challenges than ever before. So to make their challenges less complex, organisations are using groups as a tool to their benefit, as specie that has naturally evolved as a kind who prefers to behave in groups group like behaviour is not a strange thing to humans. So taking the advantage of this organisations has being able to get their work done more effectively and efficiently than ever before. Similar to a group within an organisation in the organisational management class students were appointed to groups and were presented with a specific task that was appointed to them. As a member of such a project team in this essay I have used my experience gathered in a diary to discuss the development, inputs and evolution of our group as a whole in the past few weeks.
A group is a “collection of two or more people who work with one another regularly to achieve one or more common goals”(Woods;org. behaviour 2006) is how an organisation can be formally defined. As appointed by our lecturers’ project team 404 was formed by a random collection of twenty people. We were informed that our goal should be producing a show case to promote Swinburne university In the form of orientation, DVD, broucher. Fitting more to the definition of groups we had a common goal that is to be achieved and we are to function as a unit to achieve it. There can be different types of groups within an organisation. Mainly there can be formal and informal groups, where formal groups are a group of people who had come together by formal authority for a specific purpose. Our project team can be identified as a formal group who has come together to achieve the task that is on the unit outline and we are to be adjourned after the task is complete in another 3 or 4 weeks time....
