Emotional Intelligence
Recent studies indicate that emotional inteligence influences behavior in a wide range of domains including school, community and the workplace. Regarding the individual level it’s related to work performance, solving every day problems, ability to communicate effectively, building meaningful interpersonal relationship.
In a corporation the most important thing to a leader is to understand himself, his goals, intentions, responses, behavior, understanding others and their feelings.At the same time the leader’s mood impacts the mood of others in the way which they act in any organization.
"Emotional Intelligence is a master aptitude, a capacity that profoundly affects all other abilities, either facilitating or interfering with them."--Daniel Goleman, Emotional Intelligence, p. 80.
Daniel Goleman says that not all people have this capacity to affect the others’ abilities and lead them to work in an environment which has to be productive and constructive and that one who has this aptitude must concentrate on facilitating and interfering with people.
In fact the leaders must find some effective ways to understand and improve the way they handle their own and other’s emotions.There is also true that in an organization and any human group the leader has a big impact on everyone’s emotions which drives it in a positive or negative way.
When a leader holds a speech, all the people watch him more carefully than they would watch anyone else in the group and they focus on him even he doesn’t speak. At the same time the mood affects the results of work done when talking about intense, fleeting, disruptive to work emotions. At least a sober mood is much more constructive in the way the leader acts and ignores the risks.
