Decision Making In Different Organizations
The object of this paper is to highlight some of the Decision Making techniques and tools used by different organizations. Due to their size many organizations use different techniques or some more than others. The things discussed will specifically highlight the observations of the employee as it relates to the tools and techniques used in class and literature supplied for weekly readings. The team will identify the noticeable strengths and weaknesses found in each organization. The highlighted companies are UNC Charlotte’s, Mechanical Engineering and Novant Health.
The most prevalent used Mechanical Engineering are the “Six Thinking Hats, which looks at decisions from different prospectives” and “Nominal Group Techniques, which prioritizes issues and projects to achieve consensus.” (mindtools,2008) The majority of the decisions made have the trickling affect as they usually affect more than one person or group. Therefore, it is very important to use the correct tool when making decisions that affect others. For example, when deciding when to offer a particular course it is examined from various perspectives as the decisions affect the student’s progression because some students are looking forward to certain courses being taught at particular times and have created their schedule around the course. Mechanical Engineering also has to ensure that they have a professor available for that particular course which means planning ahead is a must. The university also requires that a certain amount of courses take place on any given day. The department chair must also know the curricculm for this course and that of other classes that are needed to complete a ME course that are not a part of Mechanical Engineering to ensure there is no conflict. So, when building a schedule of classes each semester if you are considering changing a few things and the correct technique or tool is not used the result could be disastrous.
