John Hancock, John Adams, and Benjamin Franklin are just a few of the names that signed the Declaration of Independence, and I would be proud to be one of them. I would sign the Declaration of Independence because the king and parliament does not know the working and living conditions of the colonies, there is unfair taxation without representation, and there was an over load of British military in the colonies.
During the time of the colonies, the king and parliament did not know the living and working conditions of the colonies, and this did not go over well with the colonists. The soldiers that were placed in the colonies were poorly paid and were looking for extra work in colonies. These jobs had been reserved for the colonist to become ship yard workers. The soldiers were taking these jobs during their off hours; as a result, forcing many colonists to become unemployed. This showed that the king did not care how the colonist made a living. Second, Britain appointed General Tomas Gage to govern Massachusetts. He placed Boston under martial law, and the increase amount in red coats and easy ability to be thrown in jail was truly unfair. I would sign the Declaration of Independence to free the colonies of unfair working and living conditions.
Money was in short supply during the colonial times; parliament enforced unwarranted taxation onto the colonists, while the colonists were not represented in parliament. This brought about the phrase “No Taxation without Representation!” First, was the Stamp Act, this made colonists purchase a special stamp for every legal document, license, newspaper, pamphlet, and almanac. This was a said attempt to nickel and dime the colonies in way to get every last cent; this angered the colonist and especially the sons of liberty to harass the stamp agents.
