DESCRIPTIONS OF EXPERIENCES

1. Currently, I have no formal experience in a classroom. I have periodically through out the years helped children of friends and family with homework and offered advice. I look forward to working along with other experienced teachers during the program. I want to observe their various teaching techniques and apply them to my own. During my traveling in the past six years I have had many seasonal jobs waiting tables. I am often in the position of training other servers or being trained myself. Even though I already know how to wait tables I always take the opportunity to learn something new from my trainer. I am aware that everyone has a different style. A style within the framework of the organization that works for them; as do teachers. My serving style requires time management, multi-tasking, memorization, verbal skills and calmness under pressure. Each of these components are an accumulation of past experiences and various people I have trained with. Just as I have created to my own serving style I believe I will be able to find my own as teacher in training in this intensive program. I like the fact that the students are given an opportunity to participate in approximately 1000 hours of participation in one of the partner schools. Even though I haven’t spent time in a classroom since I was a student nearly seven years ago, I am confident that this program will be a perfect chance for me to me to acquire the skills I need to become an effective educator.

2. My boyfriend and I met at Western before our graduation, we share the same interest in travel. Being that we didn’t have the kind of money it takes to travel in the traditional way we decided to take a skill we already knew how to do and find jobs waiting tables in a location that we chose.
