Dionysius
Dionysius is the Greek god of wine and revelry. Dionysius brought entirely new rites and a new spirit into Greek worship. Unlike many of the other Greek gods who were often cold, forbidding and distant, Dionysius lived many years among mortals and seemed to understand them better. Some even say that Dionysius took the spot of being the twelfth of the great Olympians. Away from Hestia, whose importance during time gradually diminished.
Zeus, his father, met the daughter of King Cadmus of Thebes named Semele. He disguised himself as a mortal to conceal his presence with Semele from Hera. Together Zeus and Semele conceived a son, Dionysius. Although the disguise worked on mortals, Hera saw that it was no ordinary mortal. Hera set out to destroy Semele and her son.
