Ed Gein
This case study will focus on giving a synopsis on the life an crimes of a man by the name of Edward Gein. Gein is one of the most evil men to live in modern history. Multiple fictional characters have been created with inspiration from Ed Gein. Some of these include “Buffalo Bill” from Silence of the Lambs, and Francis Dolarhyde from Red Dragon. These two characters together embody the cannibalistic, twisted tendencies that the monster Edward Gein embraced.
While the crimes Ed Gein is suspected of committing are almost too numerous to count, the only two hard and fast crimes that Gein can be linked to are the murder of Bernice Worden and Mary Hogan.
The event that lead to the arrest of Gein was the disappearance and apparent robbing of the store that Bernice Worden ran. Police had suspected Gein of robbing the store. Upon confrontation Ed mentioned that he was being framed for the death of Worden. Police had yet to mention that Worden was even dead.
At this point Gein was taken into custody, and his farmhouse was searched. The search of the farmhouse is where the true horror of Ed Gein's activities came to light. In a shed, the decapitated body of Bernice Worden was found hanging by her feet and field dressed not unlike a deer that had just been shot. In a bedroom the face of Mary Hogan was found hanging on a wall.
While the sight of the above is enough to make most people sick to their stomachs, it is only the beginning of the atrocities found at the Gein residence. Also found in the house were things made of human flesh and bone. Some of these things include skulls on the corner posts of his bed, skull caps to be used as soup bowls, a vest and pair of socks made of human skin, some chair cushions and a lampshade made of skin.
