Organized religion keeps humanity more or less on the straight and narrow. People for the most part go to their church, help the needy in one way or another, give back to society and, try to be good overall citizens. They do this because they believe that there will be a great reward for them in the afterlife.
Art. Art in architecture was the main reason big beautiful churches were built all over the world. The architects, builders, and the church officials wanted the most glorious places built for their god. Art in the painting, the beautiful works by Byzantine ikons and the Renaissance
