Technology unlike many things in our lives changes at what seems to be a record pace. What’s the latest and greatest today will not be 3 months from now. The personal computer has had the largest effect on life in this country, we have gone from a society that at one point went out and about to intermingle and meet people, to many of us sitting at home online communicating with our friends and family, or even trying to meet that special someone. The personal computer has changed the way we as a society work and play, especially within the last couple of decades.
With the introduction of the personal computer, came an evolutionary way to do many of the mundane things in life, and take less time doing so. The first operating systems of the personal computer were all DOS based, and used command prompts to complete a task. This made the computer seem a little overwhelming to some to try and learn, but the introduction of the Windows operating system in the early 1990’s everything changed. Windows took the DOS based prompts and turned them into visual interface. With the introduction of Windows 3.0, the personal computer began to be a household item. The PC has made word processing a much quicker process, with the ability to type, and corrects the document easily at your fingertips, as well as offering a spell check function it has made typewriters a thing of the past. The introduction of the internet to the general public in 1991, the popularity has skyrocketed. Now not only can you use your computer for word processing, and other day to day things, but now also for research, as well as an abundance of other things. In 1993 as the personal computer continues to gain popularity as games were introduced.
